Event Description

The first Feeney's Fun Run for the Feeney Legacy Project (FLP) is April 14, 2024, with Startime at 9:30am, as well as a Virtual Run starting March 17, 2024--walk, run, skip anywhere anyhow and any distance--just get outside. This live event will be timed but FLP wants folks to have fun and enjoy the fresh air. On April 14th Decatur Legacy Park will guide us through the trails that weave through the park so wear shoes that are "ok to get dirty." Register and participate for either event then the swag will come!

The Fun Run is a fundraiser for the Feeney Legacy Project to build a platform available with presentations, teaching materials, marketing materials and resources for any group, school, community or individual to spread the word along with FLP's public outreach and education. Together we can save lives in our communities.

FLP began by Kathy Feeney Armistead in memory of the son she lost April 15, 2022. Feeney's death could have been avoided had 911 been called and had CPR been started immediately when Feeney went into cardiac arrest.
Kathy has brought together a group of women--sisters, family and friends ranging in ages of 13 to 86--to spread the word of FLP.

Let's wear red socks, shoes, hats, shirts, scarves and just silly stuff Feeney would be impressed with! This is an event to get outside, have fun, build teams of friends, Scouts, athletic teams, mom's groups, dad's groups, teachers, wise elders, clubs, business friends...just get outside.

COURSE:

Join us for the  5K on April 14, 2024 and race through beautiful Legacy Park in Decatur. Get back to your roots running through the woods and fields on this two loop course.

AWARDS

Awards will be given the for top 3 finishers of each age category for Male & Female. We will also award the top overall Male & Female winners of the race. 

The age categories are 10 & under, 11-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. 

T-SHIRTS

T-shirts are guaranteed to all registrations received prior to March 25th.  After that it will be first come, first serve on day of the race.  Please note, all virtual runners  WILL NOT receive a shirt. 

PARKING

There will be plenty of parking at Columbia Theological Seminary (across from Legacy Park) behind the Library, Inman Drive entrance.  You may park on residential streets, but please obey the local laws.  

WEATHER

The race will happen rain or shine. Be prepared to run in any weather. Only in the cases of extreme weather will changes to the race schedule occur. Please check your email and FLP social media on race morning for real-time updates on the status of the race if there is severe weather.

REFUNDS

No refunds or transfers from person-to-person or year-to-year are allowed. While we understand schedules change and things come up, we have a strict no-refund and transfer policy. Race Management reserves the right to cancel or modify the event due to extreme conditions such as weather. Registration fees are not refundable in the event of the race cancellation due to “Acts of God" or things outside of the control of the Race Director.  

PACKET PICK-UP

Packet pick-up will be race morning between at 8:45 - 9:20 am at Legacy Park. 

TIMING

Live Results will be accessible via QR code found on your race bib when you cross the finish line.  The race will be timed by Elite Race Timing. Each participant will receive a race bib with a timing chip attached to the bib. Results will be provided at the finish line and will be posted to Elite’s website immediately following the race at www.eliteracetiming.com.

DOGS/STROLLERS

Dogs and strollers are NOT allowed on the course; however, they are allowed at the event just not on the course. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. 

FIRST AID

In case of an emergency, please immediately notify one of the on-site medical volunteers or a police officer.

RESTROOMS

Restrooms are available in the Leigh Building - lower level.
