Event Description

The Sandpiper Sprint is hosted in partnership between Baldwin County Sewer Service and Alabama Audubon and will be held in Summerdale, Alabama on April 6th! The course starts and ends in the heart of downtown Summerdale next to Pioneer Park. For the first part of the race runners will head south into a more agricultural landscape that the area is known for. Around mile 2 the race reenters the tree lined neighborhoods of Summerdale where supporters can help cheer their runners on towards the finish line! The race ends back at Pioneer Park where awards, food, and festivities from sponsors and local environmental organizations await!

This is more than a race, it's a celebration of the birds that depend on the unique and vital habitats found in Baldwin County. From the sparrows and songbirds in your backyards to the gulls on our beautiful beaches, birds are dependent on the health of area ecosystems for survival. This includes the health of native plants and pollinators too. The birds need the insects, and the insects need native plants—and we need you! This event is open to everyone of all ages and will be a perfect opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, whether running or not.

All proceeds from this race will go directly toward funding our Coastal Bird Stewardship Program, which provides critical protection and monitoring for the 13 species of birds that depend on Alabama beaches for nesting and raising their chicks. If you are unable to attend the race, you can still help out. Click here to learn more about the work being done by Alabama Audubon Coastal Bird Stewardship Program.
