Event Description

Thank you for your interest in the Rushville Police Department’s “Can You Get Away?” 5K. Proceeds from this race will be directed toward the recently commissioned Fallen Officer and K9 Memorial to be erected on the police department lawn. The memorial will pay homage to all past police K9s and gives special tribute to those Rushville Police Department officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. The monument will contain life-size statues of both a police K9 and a Rushville Police Officer. The K9 will guard a columbarium housing the cremains of our past K9s while the Officer will stand vigilantly over a tablet containing the names of our Fallen Officers: Patrolman Fred Wachendorf (EOW: February 4, 1922) and Patrolman Walter Garrison (EOW: February 3, 1931) [see the Officer Down Memorial Page at (https://www.odmp.org/) for more details of their heroic stories]. This memorial will serve as a permanent reminder of their sacrifices and embolden us as a community to insure our last line of duty death remains the last line of duty death.

This event will be an off-road 5 Kilometer (3.1 mile) Run/Walk on varying terrain at beautiful Riverside Park Amphitheater. These off-road surfaces will challenge participants as they compete for the top spot. This will be a timed event with custom medals for the top three finishers in each running division. 
Additionally, participants will compete against the times of the officers of the Rushville Police Department to see if they can evade the Long Arm of the Law. Participants who bet the times of our all of our Top Cops will receive a special prize to commemorate their escape. Can you get away?
