Event Description

Jasper Mountain Trail Relay is a team fundraising event that benefits Jasper Mountain Reserve, an environmental 501(c)3 non-profit organization to improve and enhance wildlife habitats for rare and endangered flora and fauna native to Eastern Washington. Come and enjoy the beautiful natural scenery with the knowledge that your signup funds will benefit the conservation of the reserve.
For this race, each relay team consists of 5 team members and has one assigned bib number. The bib has an adjustable belt and can be easily exchanged between team members. Every racer signs up individually. The first member of each team who signs up will be the team captain, assigning a team name. The team captains will then forward the signup link AND the team name to other potential runners with the goal to recruit 4 additional team members. Subsequent team members use this team name during sign-up to join the team. Once a team is filled (5 members total), each team decides the order in which team members run.
The course consists of 3 separate trail loops: A 3.4 mile (red) loop, a 4.4 mile (green) loop, and a 5.3 mile (black) loop. The race starts as a mass start with all the 1st runners of each team heading out onto the red loop at the same time. Once completed, the 1st runner passes the bib to the 2nd team member who will complete the green loop. Once completed, the 2nd team member passes the bib to the 3rd team member who will complete the black loop. Upon completion, the 3rd team member passes on the bib to the 4th team member who will run the red loop, followed by the 5th team member who will run the green loop, followed by the 1st team member who will run the black loop and so on, until all 5 team members each complete all three loops.
Race timing will provide results for entire teams as well as individual times (splits) on each separate trail loop.
All three loops combined are exactly 13.1 miles, the distance of a half marathon. This total distance will be completed by each individual runner within an estimated average of 2-3 hours, which brings the duration of the entire race somewhere between 10-15 hours. In order to maximize daylight, the race will start at 7:00AM sharp and end at 10PM sharp. Due to the rugged terrain which includes steep downhills, the use of headlamps will be mandatory for any runners after 8:00PM.
Parking and campsites are provided by the race organization. Suggested arrival is during daylight the day prior to the race. Suggested departure is the day after the race. Bring your own food, water, and (battery) power sources. While easily accessible by car, the entire race location, Jasper Mountain Reserve, is off the grid, meaning there is no water or electricity. Portable sanitary facilities will be provided.
Please be aware that the campsites are within a nature reserve. Any loud noises, including car engines, power generators, high volume loudspeakers etc. are strictly forbidden on the reserve. Dogs must be on leash at all times. Open camp-fires are not allowed.
There will be an informal welcome reception and short presentation about the race in the Start/Finish area, commencing at 8:00PM on the evening prior to the race.
The start and finish line is at 933 Payne Hollow Road, Dayton, WA 99328, which can be (only) found on Google Maps. For questions, please contact info@JasperMountainReserve.org
