Event Description

A Virtual 5K is 3.1-mile race that you complete on your own time, wherever you like. Virtual races are similar to a standard race, but instead of meeting at a specific place to run a set course against other runners, every participant runs the distance and later submits their data.

In honor of April being National Minority Health Month, the Department of Health in St. Johns County has decided to facilitate a virtual 5K in order to encourage individuals to get moving. One of the best things people can do to enhance their health is to engage in physical activity, however, far too few Americans engage in the suggested level of physical activity. The physical activity guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercises are only fully met by 1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 high school students- these numbers are even lower among adults in some racial, ethnic, and other minority populations.

Engaging in physical activity enhances well-being and lowers the likelihood of chronic illnesses and other ailments that are frequently more prevalent and severe in minority populations. In addition to promoting mental health and normal growth and development in kids, physical activity also helps people feel better, perform better, and sleep better.

Registration closes on April 19th. This Virtual 5K will take place between April 20th, 2024, and April 29th, 2024. Please upload your results by April 30th!
