Event Description

The 8th annual Orange County Ride for AIDS (OCRA) is scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2017.

In October 2010, a group of avid cyclists seized an opportunity to bridge their love of cycling and their passion for helping people with HIV/AIDS. While they participated in and raised funds for some of the many rides available in surrounding areas that benefitted people living with HIV/AIDS, they recognized the funds they raised from their friends in Orange County were not being used here. OCRA’s founders felt it was time to raise money in their own community and thus, the event was born!

The inaugural ride consisted of 75 cyclists and raised about $75,000. Year upon year, OCRA has attracted more and more cyclists who praise the ride for its breathtaking Orange County scenery, fully-supported pit stops, and, of course, mid- and post-ride massages! In 2016, OCRA 7 drew 150 cyclists who helped raise over $150,000.

All of the proceeds from the ride benefit AIDS Services Foundation Orange County (ASF) whose mission is to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the lives of men, women, and children impacted by HIV disease in Orange County. In addition to proactive health education and prevention efforts, ASF provides numerous programs and services to people living with HIV to assist them in their fight against the virus. Services and programs provided through ASF’s nursing and social services case management model of care include food pantry, housing assistance, transportation, mental health counseling, kids & family programs, and more.

Beginning and ending at Bill Barber Memorial Park in Irvine, OCRA offers cyclists of every skill level the opportunity to participate. Whether it’s the full century route, metric-century, or the family- and beginner-friendly, 30-mile Fun Ride route, there’s definitely something for everyone! The longer routes take cyclists from the vast vistas of the Back Bay, through the challenging hills of Santiago Canyon, to the shores of San Clemente, and everything in between.
