Event Description
Join us in Weslaco, Texas, for a powerful community celebration honoring the life, service, and legacy of Harlon Block — a hometown hero and United States Marine whose courage helped define a moment in American history!
Harlon Block was raised in Weslaco, TX, and went on to serve his country with extraordinary bravery during World War II. He was one of the six U.S. Marines who raised the American flag atop Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima...an image that became one of the most iconic symbols of courage, unity, and sacrifice in our nation’s history! Harlon Block gave his life in service to his country, but his legacy continues to inspire generations!
The event will feature a 10K, 5K, and 1 Mile option, welcoming runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to participate. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or taking your first steps in a community run, every mile represents honor, remembrance, and pride! Additionally, a portion of the event proceeds will go toward the funding of the Harlon Block Memorial Statue ensuring that his story, sacrifice, and service are permanently honored in the community he called home.
This event is more than a race, it’s a community celebration! In addition to the running events, participants and spectators will be able to enjoy a vendor market, live music entertainment, and family friendly activities.
