Founded in 1877 by formerly enslaved African Americans, Nicodemus was built on the promise of farming, ownership, and self-sufficiency. Families came to cultivate the land, build livelihoods, and create generational opportunity through agriculture. It remains the only all-Black town west of the Mississippi River and stands as a symbol of resilience rooted in farming, hard work, and legacy.
This event is hosted by the Kansas Black Farmers Association. KBFA works to preserve Black farmland and protect agricultural heritage. It supports farmers through education, resources, and community. Your presence supports the future of farming. It helps keep these traditions alive and ensures these stories continue for generations.
