Event Description

Join us for a hands-on, family-friendly evening all about pollinators at Meeks Mountain Trails!

This special session is led by Hailey Saxton and the team from West Virginia State University 4-H. Hailey serves as a 4-H Student Worker and, alongside Extension Educators and her team, helped install the pollinator habitat at Meeks Mountain Trails in June 2023 through a pollinator-focused grant. Since then, they’ve continued to monitor, maintain, and grow the habitat—providing plants, resources, and care to help it thrive.

Come learn the basics:
What is a pollinator? Why are they so important? And how can you create your own pollinator-friendly spaces at home?

You’ll also get a chance to see and learn from the pollinator habitat right here on the trails.

This event is perfect for kids, families, and anyone curious about the natural world. You won’t just learn—you can take the experience home. Participants may walk away with pollinator-themed kits and ideas like DIY bird feeders, mason bee houses, and butterfly garden projects—simple, meaningful ways to stay connected to nature.

This is part of our continued commitment to outdoor education and creating opportunities for youth and families to engage with the trails in a deeper way.
