Event Description
Not many can say they have successfully escaped from Brushy Mountain State Pen...can you? After August 29, 2026 you can, and you'll have a medal to prove it! Join us for the inaugural "Escape From Brushy Mnt. State Pen 5k" starting within the prison walls, running around Petros, and finishing with the prison life behind you.
- Date, Time & Place: Saturday, August 29, 2026 - 5k starts at 7:30am - Historic Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary

- Registration and Entry Fee (No refunds or bib transfers): Early Bird Pricing through July 31 - $35, August 1- August 22 - $40, August 23- August 29 - $45. No discounts on day-of registration. *this is a co-event with the Historic Brushy Mountain Penitentiary, and Finish on the Field vouchers are excluded from this race.
- Shirts: Adults shirts will be a unisex cotton blend tee. Shirt order will be placed on July 31. To ensure your correct shirt size, please register by July 30. Sizes can be exchanged after the race if supplies are available. We will order extra, but when the inventory runs out in RunSignup, there will be no more shirts.
- Results: Results will be posted on Runsignup after the race.
- Grand Prix Points and Team Competition: The Escape From Brushy Mtn. State Pen 5k will NOT be on the 2026 Team Competition schedule.
- Post Race Refreshments: Assorted refreshments will be provided post race.
- Race Etiquette: Due to insurance regulations, roller blades, strollers, bicycles, and dogs are not allowed on the course. The 5K course closes in 1 hour and 30 minutes. KTC discourages the use of headphones at events.

We are excited to be working with MoCo Mutts Rescue Center for our charity partner! You can donate when you register OR you can bring needed items to race day to be entered into a raffle! Needed items are: Contractor trash bags, kitchen trash bags, bleach, laundry detergent, dawn dish soap, Pedigree Puppy Food and baby wipes.
