The University of Georgia Obesity Research Initiative (ORI) is a multidisciplinary research program dedicated to advancing innovative, collaborative research that informs effective and sustainable obesity prevention and treatment strategies across the lifespan. By bringing together experts from diverse disciplines, the ORI supports research that spans from basic science discoveries to community-based interventions, all with the goal of improving health outcomes and addressing the obesity epidemic affecting Georgia and the nation.
To help cultivate the next generation of scientists and health researchers, the ORI is hosting a 5K fundraising race. Proceeds from the event will support research opportunities for investigators and scholarships/awards for graduate students, providing critical funding to launch innovative ideas, generate preliminary data, support our annual research symposium, and build the foundation for future breakthroughs in obesity prevention and treatment. By participating in the race, community members can take an active step toward improving health while investing in the future of obesity research at UGA.
