Event Description
In Loving Memory of Nuno Loureiro — Community 10K Run
On September 27th, 2026, at 4 pm, we gather along the Charles River to run in memory of Nuno Loureiro — husband, father, friend, physicist, MIT professor, and one of the most brilliant people any of us have known.
Among many things, Nuno was also a runner. With his unique capability to combine rigor with humor, intellectual conversation with infectious laughter, he was a Sunday morning, not-too-early, let's-run-a-10K-in-under-45-minutes type of runner.
The route is a 10 km loop around the Charles River Basin, starting on the Cambridge riverbank across from MIT — a path Nuno knew well. The finish is at the Night Shift Beer Garden on the Esplanade, a spot he loved. A fitting place to raise a glass together for Nuno.
This is a community run — no timing chips, no pressure, open to all paces and abilities. Cherishing the simple things in life, like being along the river on a September Sunday afternoon. Of course, if you are a Nunoer, you can have a lengthy conversation with another runner or try to make it in sub-45 minutes. If you're not really into running but want to celebrate Nuno — you can take the shortcut straight to the beer garden.
Registration is $20. After covering any event costs, all proceeds will be donated to Nuno's family. If you'd like to give beyond the registration fee, his family's GoFundMe is here: gofundme.com/f/in-loving-memory-of-nuno-loureiro-supporting-his-family
Space is limited. Register early.
For Nuno. For his girls (wife & daughters). For Friendship.
