Event Description

10 Mile Course

The concept: The 10 mile distance is a Man vs Horse event and is open to walkers, runners and riders competing head-to-head (there is a slightly staggered start). Dogs are welcome in the 10 miler and aid will be provided to them as well. Dogs must remain on leashes at all times.

Aid Stations:
There are water stations every two miles and full aid every four miles.

Course Description:
You begin your journey at the base of Indian Wells Canyon (at Indian Wells Brewing CO.) The first 2 miles are easy going with a little sand and rock, the next two miles get gradually steeper and many will be reduced to a walk by the time you hit the first full aid station. After that it is an easy uphill grade to the highest point ~1100 feet above the start and a quick downhill four mile finish. This 10 miler is open to walkers, joggers, and speed demons alike. There are some moderate hill climbs that will not exactly help you log a new PR, but if you're looking for a 10 mile experience in a laid-back environment with plenty of aid, this is for you!

AWARDS:
Participants will be rewarded with an ice cold beverage of their choice; made on-site and served in a 'Man vs Horse' souvenir pint glass. Choose from an 'Indian Wells Brewing Co' micro-brewed beer, locally crafted 'Rocket Fizz' soda, or delicious spring water from local artesian wells. Participants will also receive lunch after the race and a custom t-shirt. All finishers will be adorned with a custom crafted finishers medal to commemorate their experience.

Marathon Trail Adventure

The concept: The 26.2 mile distance is a Man vs Horse event and is open to walkers, runners and riders competing head-to-head (there is a slightly staggered start).

Sorry but no dogs allowed at this distance (just too far).

Aid Stations:
There are water stations every two miles and full aid every four miles.

Course Description:
Starts the same as the 10 mile description above. After that you head up Indian Wells canyon and climb slowly and steadily (elevation gain of ~2,300) for 8 miles to the Owen's Peak trail head (there are a handful of steep sections but they are relatively short). The trail consists primarily of fire roads and Jeep trails. The terrain on this loop varies wildly and if you're doing it on horseback; shoes or hoof boots are required. If you're a barefoot runner, foot placement is key through about a mile of this leg as some loose rock will try to get to know you better. Once you hit the Owen's Peak Trail head, high-five the aid station crew, refuel, take in the view, and make a B-line the final 8 miles back down the mountain, there will be a cold-one waiting for you back at the brewery!

Your finish times are determined two ways:
Runners: Your time stops when you cross the finish line.
Riders: You have to do more than just cross the finish line.
Your time stops when your horses pulse rate is 60 bpm.
