Event Description
The 9th Annual Bun Run for the Cure is a 5K/10K Family Run/Walk that takes place in the historic and charming town of Smithville, Texas on Saturday, April 21, 2018. The 10K will begin at 10am, and the 5K will begin at 10:05 a.m.
After crossing the pink finish line, stay for the AFTER PARTY at Pocket's Grille! Fruit, water, mimosas, a silent auction, cupcake sampling, nail art and polish changes, massage tables, face painting, a prayer net, awards ceremony, are all taking place! Snap pics in our new funky photo booth, visit educational resources from Komen Austin, and hear live music! This is an event you WON'T want to miss! Guaranteed. I have a few surprises for you, too! Stuff that is brand spanking new!
The money raised goes towards breast cancer awareness/free mammograms for our area AND local high school seniors who have been affected by cancer! So far, we have raised over $136,000 in 8 years! ($106,000 to Komen Austin and $30,000 to seniors!)
This is truly a grassroots effort and family friendly community event! $12,000 in local scholarships are available this year to local high school seniors! (Ten $1000, and one $2000 scholarship). The scholarships are available to graduating seniors from each of the following six high schools (Elgin, Smithville, Bastrop, Cedar Creek, La Grange, and Giddings). Scholarship applications are available at each Counselor's office or by contacting me directly. Applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2018. The Scholarship Committee will select and notify recipients. All scholarship winners must attend the Bun Run.
If you register by April 1, 2018, you are guaranteed a race shirt. Anyone who registers after that date is NOT guaranteed a shirt. I always order extra, but they will be a first come, first serve basis. Tell your peeps, because it's super CUTEEEE, and you're gonna want one. Promise. ;)
This is definitely a fun family event! Dogs, strollers, bikes, golf carts, and wagons are allowed. Decorate them! Balloons, streamers, anything you can think of! Dress up!!! I love creativity! The more creative, the better! THINK PINK, EVERYWHERE! ;)
Plan your costumes, and outfits now! :) Think bandanas, crazy socks, crazy hair, wigs, tutus, etc.! Create teams!
This race is self-timed using a digital clock at the start/finish line.

T shirt pickup is Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Pocket's Grille in Smithville from 11am-2pm. In the case you are unable to pickup on this date, you can come the day of the race to pickup your shirt.
