Ramsey-based philanthropy, Durga Tree International, will hold its second annual “Lacing Up For Freedom” Walk-a-Thon on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Durga Tree Int'l is an organization created to raise funds for the many amazing small charities committed to the full eradication of Modern Day Slavery around the globe. Our goal is to take the homework out of becoming involved in this movement by qualifying hardworking, worthy organizations from around the world, becoming the fundraising vehicle they so desperately need. This means that more of the funds raised will go directly to the cause, and the charities themselves can spend their time and resources to directly combat this world-wide issue.
Last year’s event raised over $40,000, and this year’s walkathon is slated to be an even bigger event. The day is full of fun for the whole family including a pre-walk warm up, light breakfast and lunch, entertainment and local vendors. Walkers of all ages are welcome along with well-behaved, leashed canine companions, who may register to become fundraising participants. Prizes will be awarded to the top fundraisers in the youth, adult, canine, and team categories. Commenting on the event, co-founder Beth Tiger said, “What can we say at Durga Tree but YES! We set out to make a small ripple in the effort to end modern slavery and now that ripple is slowly but surely turning into a wave. So many beautiful people have come forward to offer resources, time, talent and funds to support our efforts. For this we are so grateful & committed to ensuring each donor’s investment in our charity is nurtured and expands.”
