Event Description

Tour Summary:

Although this is sightseeing running tour, we'll run at an easy pace and will stop periodically to discuss notable historic and contemporary points of interest.

Brooklyn is the second largest borough in New York City, has the highest population, and was once a city independent from New York up until 1890. It is now home to a diverse set of ethnic groups and has seen a renaissance as a center of technology start-ups, food purveyors and artisans. A boost in the local economy has resulted in a surge in development for both home and office spaces. It has also led to the creation of Brooklyn Bridge Park along the East River shoreline, which was once congested with factories and warehouses. The park spans 85 acres from Brooklyn Heights to DUMBO, which are the neighborhoods that this tour will cover.

If you like architecture and landscapes, this tour is for you. We begin the tour by running across the Brooklyn Bridge then through the historic streets of Brooklyn Heights which is one of the most affluent neighborhoods in all of New York City. You’ll see classic brownstones, townhouses and stable houses which date back to the early 19th century. Brooklyn Bridge Park includes winding walking paths, recreational piers, park benches overlooking the river and new condominiums built around the perimeter of the park. It is common for locals grab take-out from a number of surrounding restaurants and picnic on the green lawns while admiring the gorgeous cityscape views. They also take advantage of new retail shops and even a museum that have been built within 19th century buildings that were once warehouses for tobacco. We’ll continue to run through the park until we reach or ending point at the A,C subway entrance at High Street across Cadman Plaza Park. You are sure to fall in love with Brooklyn and this picturesque running course.

What to expect

This is not a race, but rather a group running tour that will be led by licensed NYC sightseeing guides who are also certified running coaches. To insure no one is left behind and that all can hear the guide we will run at an easy, conversation pace. We will make periodically stops to view and discuss notable points of interest throughout the tour. You should be able to comfortably run 4 miles for this tour. The duration of the tour is approximately 90 minutes. Although your guide will run with a backpack and can store small items for you such as phones or keys, we recommend bringing very little on the tour. As always, it's important to stay hydrated during a run, so please bring a small bottle of water. We will begin our tour right at the scheduled start time, however if you are running late please be sure to email or phone us no later than 15 minutes prior to the start. Travel to and from our tours is usually fastest via subway, so please bring a MetroCard.
