Event Description

EVENT INFO:

The UVC Athletic Booster Club is proud to announce the first annual Great Scott! Climb to the Top Challenge to be held on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 in Glide, Oregon. This event will begin at the base of Mt. Scott, located in the heart of Douglas County and on the western edge of the Cascade Mountain range in Southern Oregon. This event is open to all mountain bikers and runners who are looking for a unique challenge and rewarding experience. The course begins on the historic Strader Ranch, and climbs 3500 feet in 12 miles (yes, you read that right, 3500 feet!) to the top of Mt. Scott. Mt. Scott is located on private property and is not open to the general public. Through the cooperation of Roseburg Forest Products, Lone Rock Timber, Strader Ranch and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), we have negotiated exclusive access to Mt. Scott and have created a course that will be fun, challenging and offer incredible views that few people will ever experience. The course travels across beautiful ranch land, through tall conifer forests and ends at the top of the 4400’peak of Mt. Scott. The total course is 24 miles (12 up and 12 down) for the mountain bikers and 12 miles for the runners. Return shuttles will be provided for those who run the event. So the question is: Are you up for the Great Scott, Climb to the Top Challenge?

All participants will receive a chip-timed bib, event t-shirt, bandana, commemorative pin, “swag” bag, light energy breakfast at check in, a full and complete lunch at the top of Mt. Scott and a certificate of completion with recorded time suitable for framing. There will also be 3 aid stations along the course to provide refreshment and assistance to participants. Please note: this event will be professionally timed for the trip up to the top, but not on the return trip.

We are also offering a shorter course called the Fun Ride or Run (6 miles round trip) for those who want to come out and participate in the event, but are unable to complete the larger course to the top of Mt. Scott. Each participant in the Fun Ride or Run will receive an event T-shirt and breakfast the morning of the event. Children 10 and under are free, however, if they want an event T-shirt, the cost is $10.
