Event Description

This camp is for kids with Level 2 and Level 3 mountain biking skills. Kids will break into two groups after the first day of camp based on age/ability. LEVEL 2 This level becomes the difference between a ‘beginner’ and an ‘intermediate’ mountain biker. Though age is not the determining factor, kids are usually at least 7 years old and have been riding a bicycle confidently for a couple years. With level 2 comes more substantial mountain biking with drills specific to handling a bicycle on singletrack. Capacity for riding grows to longer consecutive riding stretches, maintaining energy and enthusiasm for riding, and the ability to show multiple riding skills naturally. LEVEL 3 After initial mountain biking skills (braking, shifting gears, solid balance, etc.) are taught, practiced, and implemented on trails, coaches begin to build on a rider’s confidence. This level tends to be for the older kid (age varies) with the capacity to ride for up to an hour on single track and still have enthusiasm to keep riding later on. At this level the speed of riding increases both uphill and downhill. Switchbacks both uphill and downhill are introduced, and technical riding (rocks, roots, etc) becomes both exciting for the kid as well as doable with the honing of skills and practice. A geared bike with hand breaks is ideal for Levels 2 and 3. This is not a requirement but might give your child a better experience mountain biking. Please ensure bikes are tuned with air in the tires and breaks properly working. A helmet, sack lunch, 2 snacks and rain gear will be required as well.
