More than 5,000 participants are expected to gallop, trot and canter at the 21st Santa Anita Derby Day 5K run/walk and kids’ runs set for Saturday, April 9, 2016, in Arcadia, Calif., announced Kinane Events, the event organizer.
Featuring a unique start through the Santa Anita Park's official racetrack starting gate, the Santa Anita Derby’s flat, 3.1-mile course takes runners and walkers through the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden and finishes down the famous homestretch of the Santa Anita racetrack. Event-day registration starts at 6:30 a.m. with the 5K run starting at 8 a.m. and 5K walk starting at 8:20 a.m.
The family-oriented event also includes a Kids' 6-Furlong Race (3/4 miles) for ages 7 -12 years and a Homestretch Dash (0.68 miles) for ages 6 and under, starting at 9:45 a.m.
Entry fees include admission to the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby, a post-race party on the infield, live music and refreshments, including a beer garden. Additional amenities include chip timing for 5K and kids races, colorful t-shirts and finisher medals for all.
