Event Description

The Inspectagator is hosting a race to benefit the Hydrocehalus Association and his daughter's thru hike of the Appalachian Trail 2019 to raise funds and awareness for Hydrocephalus.  For every 1000 babies born in the US, 1 or 2 will be born with hydrocephalus, "water on the brain."  This condition creates tremendous pressure on the brain and if not treated the baby/person will die.  Currently the treatment is brain surgery to insert a shunt that will drain the excess fluid to another part of the body where it can be eliminated. Side effects can range from learning disabilities, vision problems, epilepsy, and walking. Many use walkers and wheelchairs. Willow is blessed to be high functioning and therefore wants to Hike for those who can't.  Treatment requires brain surgery which she has had 7 so far and we know that there will be others as the shunt that is placed in the brain is manmade and the body attacks it till the shunt eventually breaks down and a new one is required.
