Event Description

NEWS FOR PARTICIPANTS - There will not be a packet pick-up before the day of the event. Check-in to obtain your bib, chip, and T-shirt will begin at 10:00am in the southwest corner of Military Park (along Blackford St.) The 5K and 1-mile walk will start promptly at noon.

Run or walk a 5K (3.11 miles) along a scenic route in downtown Indianapolis! The 4th annual Recycle Run 5K begins (at noon) and finishes at Historic Military Park at White River State Park but the majority of the course will take you along the White River. You will venture west out of Historic Military Park along New York St. before heading upstream on the White River Wapahani Trail (wide sidewalk). Just before 10th Street, you will cut over to the Urban Wilderness Trail and head downstream. After approximately 1.25 miles you will take a short ramp to reconnect to the White River Wapahani Trail, but only for a short distance before taking Wabash St. back to Historic Military Park.   A 1-mile walk is also available. Before and after your walk/run enjoy the free Earth Day Indiana Festival also taking place in Historic Military Park at White River State Park.

We've reduced our waste stream as much as possible by using recycled items needed for the race. We will have a recycling dumpster for plastic water bottles; bibs are ones left over from previous 5Ks; and participants will receive a recycled (unused) commemorative medal from a previous 5K event attached to a lanyard that is made from recycled plastic bottlesl!!!! Hopefully, you will appreciate the new (clean) t-shirt that all participants receive rather than a recycled one.

Wait. You have never heard of the Urban Wilderness Trail? Well, you are in for a surprise. This not so well known trail is comprised of crushed limestone and grass and parallels the White River. Since you will be at the river level, you will not see much of the river because it is blocked by the dense vegetation that grows along the banks.

You are encouraged to bring your own reusable water bottle as water availability may be limited to reduce waste. This is the 30th year for the Earth Day Indiana Festival and the 4th year of the Recycle Run 5K Run/Walk. Parking is available at surface lots close to Historic Military Park.
