Join us on August 28th at 9am for the start of the 37th Annual Mt. Ashland Hill Climb Bike Race! This event begins in downtown Ashland at the Plaza at the base of Lithia Park (el 1900′) and climbs to the Mt. Ashland ski area parking lot (~6500′). With 4,600′ of net elevation gain, the Mt Ashland Hill Climb rivals some of the toughest climbing events on the west coast. For reference, that’s more than twice the elevation gain of Page Mill Rd in Palo Alto, more than Mt Diablo, Mt Tamalpais, Mt Hamilton, the Oregon Hill Climb Championship course on Mt Hood, and the Mt Baker Hill Climb in Washington. See how the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb stacks up against other hill climbs in the January 2012 edition of Bicycling Magazine. For the nitty gritty details on Mt. Ashland check out the course profiles.

But wait, there’s more: this race pits road cyclists vs mtb’ers and ‘cross folks. Facing back to back, everyone starts at the same time. The roadies race ~24 miles on pavement, while the knobby-tired riders head up 18 miles of mostly forest service roads. Both roadies and mountain bikers join for the last two miles of climbing to the finish at the Mt. Ashland Ski Lodge.
