Event Description

Tired of the same old type of races? Then join us for a unique race experience with our 2.75 mile “Headstart Race”. Runners will start in waves (see below for details) based on gender and age, otherwise known as a handicap format. This type of format evens out the playing field, and gives older runners and female runners a chance to finish higher up in the overall standings, and perhaps even be the first to cross the finish line!

Wave 1 – Women 70+ and Men 80+ - 12 minute headstart

Wave 2 – Women 60-69 and Men 70-79 – 8 minute headstart

Wave 3 – Women 50-59 and Men 60-69 – 5 minute headstart

Wave 4 – Women 40-49 and Men 50-59 – 3 minute headstart

Wave 5 – Women 0-39 and Men 40-49 – 2 minute headstart

Wave 6 – Men 0-39 – no headstart

Mostly flat, loop course in Golden Gate Park, with start/finish at Kennedy Drive near Transverse.  Race day registration and bib pick-up starts at 8am, race begins at 9am.  All runners receive a finisher ribbon with place ribbons to Top 5 overall M/F runners.

Event details and schedule

Free parking along Kennedy and Transverse.  ID not required for check-in.  For children ages 10 & under please register them on race day only as there is no fee for this age group.  Race is held rain or shine, no refunds.  DSE also offers an unlimited 2019 membership: $100 includes pre-registration to 40+ 2019 DSE races.  For more information please visit our website at www.dserunners.com.
