Welcome to San Diego
Thank you for joining us for the 2020 San Diego Half Marathon & Padres 5K!

These final instruction pages are for all Half Marathon, Padres 5K, and Relay participants and are sub-divided into several sections so that you can easily find what you need when you need it.

We can’t wait until you join us post-race to Celebrate San Diego as you enjoy your epic finish inside Petco Park!

Race Day Parking
DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Petco Park – 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101

If arriving by passenger vehicle, choose your parking option, then select the route that is best for you. The trolley is also a great option and is listed after the Paid Parking below. 

Driving to Petco Park. Use the I-5 fwy to access the parking areas listed below:

If traveling I-5 southbound, exit at Front Street, 10th Avenue or Imperial Ave.
If traveling northbound on I-5, exit at J Street.
If traveling from the east, exit onto the 94 Fwy then turn south onto 16th St to Imperial Ave.

*Important*:

For Half Marathon start waves, use the Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge or park at 8th & Harbor Garage (option 4 below). Alternatively, drop off your stadium-safe gear bag at Gear Check on Park Blvd south of Imperial across from Petco Park, near the Pedestrian Bridge.

For 5K start waves, enter Harbor Drive via 5th Avenue to line up in your waves.

Relay Leg2 shuttle buses will be located near Gear Check on Imperial Blvd. near Park Blvd.

Ride Share: Drop-off/pick-up zones are located on the northeast side of Petco Park. Use 10th Ave. between Park Blvd. and K St.

PARKING OPTIONS

Meters (Free)
All metered parking is free on Sundays in downtown San Diego.

Paid Parking
1. Tailgate Lot — $10; Enter this surface lot from Imperial Ave. at 13th St.
2. Lexus Premier Lot — $20; Enter this surface lot from Imperial Ave. at 11th Ave, between Park Blvd and 14th St.
3. MTS Garage — $14; Located on 1100 Imperial Ave.$10; Enter this garage from Imperial Ave., between 12th Ave. and 14th St.
4. Convention Center Garage — $15; Located at 111 West Harbor Dr. Enter via Harbor Drive from Front St. Westbound Harbor Drive will not be available on race morning.
5. Bayfront Hilton Garage – $15; Located at 1 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101. From the north, take Harbor Drive; if coming from the south, take Cesar Chavez Parkway.
6. Padres Parkade— $10; Entrance to this garage is on 10th Ave. between Island Ave and J St. Access from I-5 southbound’s 10th Ave. exit.

Reserved parking for the disabled will be along 6th Ave., adjacent to the block party.

Note: Use caution when using online map services for driving directions, as they do not account for our race road closures or construction projects.

RIDE THE TROLLEY

The MTS Trolley network is an attractive option for those traveling from the north, east or south. On race day, plan to arrive at the 12th & Imperial Trolley Station (closest to Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge for half marathon waves and Gear Check for all participants) or Gaslamp Quarter Trolley Station (closest to 5K start waves). A trolley 2-way pass or Day Pass is approximately $5.00. For more detailed arrival/departure times and a list of stations with free parking, please visit www.sdmts.com.

Trolleys arrive at Petco Park in plenty of time prior to the race, as follows:

Blue Line northbound (San Ysidro to 12& Imperial) arrives at the 12th & Imperial Trolley Station at 5:31am, 6:01am and 6:31am.
Green Line (Santee/Qualcomm Stadium to Gaslamp) arrives at Gaslamp Quarter Trolley Station at 5:24am, 5:54am, 6:24am and 6:54am and  12th & Imperial Trolley Station at 5:26am, 5:56am,  6:26am and 6:56am.
Orange Line southbound (El Cajon to 12th & Imperial) arrives at the 12th & Imperial Trolley Station at 5:57am and 6:27am.

Relay-Only Instructions

EXPO

Both relay partners should plan to pick up race packets at the Expo (signed waivers are required for both relay partners). If you are Leg1, you will also pick up your team’s official relay baton.

RACE DAY

Both relay partners should plan to go to Petco Park on race morning.

Leg2: Once you arrive at Petco Park, look for the shuttles on Imperial Ave (just across Park Blvd from Petco Park). Shuttles begin departing as early as 7:00am, with the last shuttle departing at 7:30am.
Leg1: Join the half marathon wave listed on your race bib. Once you reach the 10K mile marker, keep right and follow the green RELAY signs into the transition area, where you will hand off the baton to your partner.  Shuttles will then take you to the corner of 7th & K St (just outside the Gaslamp Gate of Petco’s Park at the Park) where you can reunite with your partner and finish together!
Each partner will receive their own Relay medal.


Course Support

GEAR CHECK

Gear Check is an easy way to store your extra clothing while you are out on the course (i.e. layers before the race or a change of clothes). Your race packet includes a pre-printed gear bag label attached to your bib and a zip tie. Prior to dropping off your gear bag on race morning, attach the label to the stadium-safe bag (provided at the Expo) with the zip tie.

The Gear Check drop-off area is located at the southern end of Park Blvd across from Petco Park. Your bag will be available for pick-up inside Petco’s Park at the Park. Please do not put valuables in your gear bag, as we cannot be responsible for any lost or stolen items. Unattended items found at the start or along the course will be donated to charity.

PRE + POST-RACE RESTROOMS

Pre-race portable restrooms will be available before the race in Petco’s Power Alley (only after 7am), at the southernmost end of Park Blvd, and adjacent to Start Waves along Harbor Drive.

Post-race portable restrooms will be located after the finish line upon exiting Craft Pier;
>To the LEFT: 2nd Floor of Western Metal Supply (on the way to the Spectator Zone)
>To the RIGHT: in Power Alley
>Behind the Spectator Zone (next to Concessions)

COURSE SUPPORT

Water will be served at the following Half Marathon Miles: 1.0, 3.1, 4.9, 6.2, 8.1, 9.4, 10.7, 11.9 and 5K Miles: 1.0, 2.0.

Ultima Replenisher electrolyte drink (cherry pomegranate flavor) will be served in Ultima-branded cups every 3 miles and will precede water at Half Marathon Miles: 3.1, 6.2, 8.1, and 10.7.

Clif Shot Energy Gels (Vanilla, Razz, Citrus w/caffeine, and Mocha w/caffeine) will be available at Half Marathon Mile 6.2.

Portable restrooms will be available at Half Marathon Miles: 1.0, 3.1, 4.9, 6.2, 8.1, 9.4, 10.7, 11.9 and 5K Miles 1.0, 2.0.

Medical tents are stationed at Half Marathon Miles: 3.1, 6.7, 9.5 and 11.9.

Race Guards, a uniformed in-race first aid team, will be starting with each wave.

Help keep San Diego clean! Recycling receptacles for cups will be placed along the route within ~25 yards after each aid station.

TIME LIMITS

>The half marathon has a time limit of 3½ hours (max 16 min/mile pace for each mile) in order to re-open the roads to vehicular traffic.
>The 5K has a limit of 1 hour (19 min/mile pace for each mile) and should “keep right” during the 1st mile to make way for the half marathon coming up from behind.

If you exceed this limit, you may be asked to finish as a pedestrian or use our shuttles to facilitate your return to downtown.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS

Smile! MarathonFoto, our official race photographer, will be all along the course and at the finish line. Professional photos will be available for purchase online within 3 days.

REUNITE WITH FAMILY + FRIENDS

We recommend meeting family and friends in any section of the Spectator Zone (lower seating bowl) of Petco Park.

SHIRTS + EXCHANGES

If you are interested in purchasing an additional San Diego Half Marathon event shirt or exchanging your size for another, visit our T-Shirt Exchange booth at Petco’s Park at the Park after your race.

POST-RACE NUTRITION

Due to stadium concession restrictions, your post-race tote at the finish will include water, chocolate milk from Rockview Farms, and a Dole fruit cup. Ballpark concessions will be open for purchase and don’t forget to check out the Special Offers from Gaslamp restaurants and bars to plan your post-race eating.

MASSAGES

Massages will be available after your epic finish in the Breitbard Hall of Fame located on the 2nd Floor of the Western Metal Supply Building on the way to the Spectator Zone.
