Event Description

First 250 Registered Participants will be gaurenteed a Race Tee - Shirt. All registered participants will receive a race medal.

2nd Annual Freedom Flag Health & Wellness 5k is presented by Give2Those.org. In honor and remembrance of Cpl. David Atherton and Woburn Resident Kevin McDonald. Cpl. David Atherton was active duty military and a Stoneham Firefighter at the time when he was tragically killed in 2016. A year later David Atherton’s sister in laws brother, Kevin McDonald was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident on his way home to Woburn. 

David and Kevin were both active in living a healthier lifestyle. They embraced life, liberty and their freedom.

Freedom Flag Health & Wellness 5k; is about giving thanks and paying tribute to our US Armed Forces and First Responders who so willingly step up to answer the call to serve their nation and community. It is an opportunity to inspire, motivate and simply say thanks to the men and women of the US Armed Forces and our First Responders for all they do putting their lives on the line.

There will also be the Hometown Hero Half Mile which pays tribute to those who serve and to Stoneham Firefighter Cpl. David Atherton & Woburn Resident Kevin McDonald.Kevin grew up in Woburn and David in Stoneham so we will pay tribute to those who lost their lives due to serve to their country and community

The Health & Wellness portion of this event is a way to promote and motivate the community to live a positive, healthy lifestyle. We encouraged the community to join us and browse through the various vendor booths to take advantage of the programs and services available to them within the community and surrounding areas.

Registration will open at 7:00 a.m

Ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Race will start at 9:00 a.m.

Be sure to check out the Health & Wellness vendors before and after the race. - Open to the public- 

Attention Parents with Strollers Please be Advised !!!!!

On the course there is a section that strollers will not be permitted, you can still take on the course but due to terrain strollers you will be guided to go around a certain section of the course. 


Note to Parents: Please be advised that the race goes through the woods via along the path which is near Horn Pond and will then come out along roads; you are responsible for keeping your children safe along the route at all times. 


Code of Conduct for All Participants: We ask that All participants follow the Rules conduct. We ask that you please conduct yourself in a courteous manner, showing respect for all fellow participants, volunteers, Event Staff, and members of the community. We ask that you please conduct proper race etiquette, including being aware of surroundings/announcements and following instructions from event officials.Start: Runners, Walkers, Ruckers, we ask that you remain respectfully during pre-race announcements and the singing/playing of the national anthem.


Headphones: The use of headphones or earbuds is permitted but please make sure to keep them at levels in which you remain aware of your surroundings, including other participant.


Urination: In accordance with the city/town ordinances, participants may only urinate in toilet facilities. Public urination in any part of the race venue, course, village is prohibited.


Participants Courtesy: Please exercise extreme care when spitting or blowing their noses to avoid soiling nearby participants.
Trash: Series events are conducted in public parks, beaches and streets we ask Participants to please deposit all trash in trash bins.


Safety: If any participant encounters a runner in distress, they should offer assistance and/or report the situation to the nearest event coordinator or volunteer. If possible, they should also call 911 or the local emergency medical number.
