Event Description
If you haven't been to La Veta's Oktoberfest, you're missing a great event! Held each year the first Saturday of October, Oktoberfest includes a car show, German band, dancing in the street all day long, over 60 arts, crafts, and food vendors, a Veteran's tribute, and a German Biergarten. Festivities begin at 10 am.
Now you can get your running in before the festivities begin by spending Saturday morning before Oktoberfest on a half marathon through La Veta and heading towards Cuchara on State Highway 12, the Scenic Highway of Legends, located in the Cuchara Valley at the base of the Spanish Peaks. The half marathon begins and ends in La Veta Town Park. La Veta is nestled in the Cuchara Valley under the majestic Spanish Peaks, a pair of prominent mountains located in southern Huerfano County. This is a half marathon off the beaten path!
If online registration is closed, you can still download the registration form at www.twopeaksfitness.org/activiites. Bring it with you to the La Veta Town Park Saturday morning. We look forward to seeing you there!
Event details and schedule
Saturday, October 5, beginning at 8:30 am in La Veta Town Park, continuing to the halfway point on Highway 12, the Scenic Highway of Legends, and back.
Packet pickup begins at 8:30 just across the street from the Ryus Avenue Bakery, and the run starts at 9 am. Parking is available on Ryus Avenue and on Moore Avenue (Moore Avenue is north of the Town Park).

The temperature should be comfortable for wearing jogging shorts, but be sure to check the weather forecasts for the possibility of rain, although rain is more likely in the late afternoon in the morning.
The route starts at the town park on Ryus Ave, goes west to Oak Street to merge with Highway 12, Continue on Highway 12 towards Cuchara to the halfway turn point then return to La Veta Town Park.
The run will be held rain or shine and there are no refunds or roll fowards to future runs. If you can't make it, someone else can take your place, or we will postal mail your packet for $6.00.
