The Monterey Beach SportsFest on September 24 and 25, 2016 is a two-day festival celebrating the ocean lifestyle on Monterey’s Del Monte Beach, nestled between downtown Monterey and the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Participants and spectators will be inspired to care for the ocean as they directly connect to it through the athletic events in and adjacent to the sea, and through interaction with the educational and conservation resources available at our two-day “Healthy People, Healthy Oceans” Expo.
An eclectic mix of beach and ocean competitions includes:
o 2-Person Beach Volleyball
o .5-Mile, 1-Mile And 2.5-Mile Open-Water Swims
o The Bruckner Chase Challenge - Combination of all 3 distances (.5-Mile, 1-Mile And 2.5-Mile Open-Water Swims)
o The “Ikaika” Challenge (Swim 450 yards, 100 squats, Run 1 mile, 100 Push-ups, Run 1 mile, 100 Crunches)
o The Mini "Ikaika" Challenge (Swim 250 yards, 50 squats, Run 1/2 mile, 50 Push-ups, Run 1/2 mile, 50 Crunches)
o The "Ikaika" Challenge (Public Safety vs. Armed Forces Challenges/Individuals & Teams)
o Stand Up Paddle Race 2 mile and 6 mile - Stock and SUP
o Waterman Challenge (Swim/Prone/SUP)
o Kid's 400-Yard Beach Run - Free
o Kid's Sand Castle Contest - Free
In addition, there is a two-day Expo featuring booths celebrating the oceans as well as human wellness. Event highlights also include food trucks and beach activities including beach yoga, kayak, paddleboard demonstrations and MUCH MORE!
