Event Description

The Norway Triathlon is a United States Triathlon (USAT)-sanctioned sprint triathlon that combines swimming, bicycle riding, and running. Competitors begin with a 750 meter swim on a triangular course from Norway’s Pennesseewassee Park beach area near Route 118. Upon return to the beach, swimmers run to the transition area, mount their bikes for a 12.4 mile (20 km) ride up 118, taking a right turn on the Greenwood Road to a turnaround point beyond the Richardson Hollow Road. Once back at the transition area the final leg begins, a 3.1 mile (5 km) run through the paved roads of the Ashton neighborhood. The finish line is back in the Park. Individual competitors undertake all three legs. Relay teams may be formed with 2 or 3 competitors. Racers of all abilities are encouraged to compete.

All proceeds will benefit the Western Foothills Land Trust. WFLT  protects over 4,000 acres in the greater Oxford Hills via conservation easements with private land owners, and owns over 3,000 acres. The Trust manages 25 miles of recreational trails for public use on six Preserves, with more trails to come. Shepard’s Farm and Roberts Farm Preserves are very near the Triathlon site in Norway, both feature Bernard Langlais sculptures. Roberts Farm has 16k grassed and groomed Nordic trails and a warming hut. Shepard’s Farm has 3 miles of mountain bike/hiking trails and is perfect for kite flying and sledding.
