Event Description

The South Mountain Heritage Society (SMHS) Spook Hill Cider & Wine 4 Mile Run provides participants the unique opportunity to run through historic Burkittsville, Union Cemetery, Boordy's South Mountain Vineyard and the Distillery Lane Ciderworks orchard via a mix of paved and cross-country type surfaces.   

Visit the participating wineries/cideries/eateries on the Spook Hill Wine Trail post-run! Come for the run, stay for the wine!

New for 2019: Wine-themed finisher's medals! 

Overland Timing will be bib-chip timing the 2019 run. Overall and age group awards will be calculated via "gun" time.

Accolades:  Spook Hill was named by Competitor.com in 2014 as a "Must Do" fall race in the Mid-Atlantic Region.  The race has been featured by Runner's World Magazine in 2015 and 2018!  Spook Hill is also a Frederick Steeplechasers Running Club "Grand Prix Series" event.

June 1 through August 31: $32.95

September 1 through September 30: $34.95

October 1 through October 15, 2019 (or until the race sells out all 500 slots): $36.95

Race Day (if bibs still available): $40, cash or check.

9:45 Distillery Lane Ciderworks tasting room opens for business.  

Boordy Vineyards be set up at race HQ on race morning, offering complimentary tastings and sales post-run.

You'll be able to pre-purchase your Distillery Lane Ciderworks tasting passes pre-race at race HQ. The Whistle Pig Farm food truck will be at DLC on race morning, giving you the chance to purchase some hearty, locally-sourced breakfast fare featuring pork from their heritage hogs and pancakes made with local grains (menu is tentative and not complete).

*The Little Red Barn Ice Cream Cafe, just off of Rte 340 in Jefferson (show them your bib on race-day for a free kid's size soft serve) is a great place to grab lunch!

2019 Race Premiums:

Each participant will receive a commemorative wine glass.  Run finishers will receive a unique, wine-themed finisher's medal.  Cotton and Technical Tee-shirts can be ordered for a nominal fee during the registration process until 9/30/2019.
