Event Description

Founded in 2001 by Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2111, The Chula Vista Veterans Walk has been improving the Chula Vista Veterans Home quality of life for residents in many ways.  The Veterans Home in Chula Vista is the Southern facility for Veterans and has a 400 bed capacity.  The event brings materials and services unavailable due to gaps and periodic cuts in state and federal budgets.  Since the first walk, the cause has become more self-evident due to the many budgetary restrictions that arise each year from new demands that our legislators are forced to tackle to ensure our state and federal services and initiatives are maintained.

Triggered by shared goals of assisting our veterans in their twilight years and vowing to never forget their sacrifices toward freedom, several Veterans Organizations have come together in support of this shared endeavor.  Joining the Veterans of Foreign wars, veterans from the American Legion Post 434, Marine Corps League Det. 1207, Fleet Reserves Association, United States Submarine Veterans and the Elks Lodge have assembled to help out and ensure the event’s success.

The 15th annual walk will begin at the Chula Vista Veterans Home and end at the Veterans of Foreign wars Post 2111 with entertainment and lunch for all walkers.  The event will also have raffles with all donations going 100% to the Veterans Home.  Please register to walk as an individual, team or Sponsor to this great cause and help us to Support those who have served our country with pride and selfless sacrifice.

LT Bobby Russell Price, USN(Retired) was a true patriot who served his country with pride, loyalty and distinction.  A force for positive change in the veteran community, he made lasting contributions through his work with The Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association, and Chula Vista Veterans Home Support Foundation.  In 2008, he was named the City of Chula Vista and San Diego County Veteran of the Year.  In 2011, he was elected to lead the VFW Department of California as State Commander.  Bobby departed for Post Everlasting on November 2nd, 2012.  He was one of the founding members of this event.
