Event Description

Break out your glowsticks and double knot your Friday evening running shoes for A Shot in the Dark Night Trail Race. Once the sun sets and the trails have darkened, participants will take on either a 5K or 10K distance through the USNWC trail system. After the race, stick around for awards, fire pits, music and prizes along with food and beverage (for purchase) at the Pump House Biergarten.

REGISTRATION:

  • Pre-registration through November 6
    • $32 – 5K distance
    • $37 – 10K distance
  • Race day registration
    • $37 – 5K distance
    • $42 – 10K distance
  • Note: All participants are required to wear a headlamp or carry an illumination light source
  • Note: Recover Brands shirts are only guaranteed to those who pre-register before November 4
SCHEDULE:

Thursday, November 7

  • 5:00pm – 7:00pm – Optional Packet pick-up
    • Location – Packet pick-up at Recover Brands – 1518 Bryant St, Charlotte, NC 28208
    • Note: We encourage pre-registered runners to participate in the early packet pick-up to decrease race day lines
    • Note: Race Day Registration will be available during packet pick-up

Friday, November 8

  • 5:30pm – Race day registration and packet pick-up begins – Pump House Biergarten
  • 6:20pm – Projected sunset
  • 6:45pm – Race-day registration and packet pick-up ends
  • 7:15pm – 5K & 10K starts
  • TBD – 5K awards ceremony
  • TBD – 10K awards ceremony
  • 8:45pm – Course closes (runners may finish the course however official times may not be recorded)
  • 10:00pm  – Pump House Biergarten food and beverage ends

AWARDS:

Awards will be given to top three Male/Female finishers in the following categories for both the 5K and the 10K distances:

  • 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55 and better

  • Waiver Policy
    • All participants must sign the USNWC waiver before participating
  • Refund and Transfer Policy
    • Race Registration is non-refundable
    • A 100% registration transfer must be requested 2 months (or more) in advance of race day via racedirector@usnwc.org
    • A 50% registration transfer must be requested 1 month (or more) in advance of race day via racedirector@usnwc.org
    • Registration transfers are only applicable to the same race the following year
  • Forgotten Add-On Gear
    • All purchased add-on gear must be collected during packet pick-up
    • Items will not be shipped
    • If items are unable to be picked up during packet pick-up, you must arrange pick-up with racedirector@usnwc.org and collect from Outfitters within one week from event date
    • The race director will not email you to arrange your pick-up
    • All unclaimed items will be donated
    • Typical parking fees apply

    • Participants not present for awards may collect their award from Outfitters within two months of the race date

  • Trail Safety
    • Trails will be open to other runners, hikers and bikers
    • Headphones, iPods, MP3 players, etc are strongly discouraged
    • Remain attentive and courteous at all times
    • No pets allowed on the course
  • Race Bibs
    • Race bib must be visible and worn on the front of shirt to receive an accurate time
  • Aid Stations
    • See Course Map for water/electrolyte stop locations
    • Plan accordingly if you think you may require additional hydration during race
  • Weather Policy
    • Event will proceed rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by the Race Director. Any changes will be communicated via email by the Race Director
  • Parking Policy
    • All guests are required to pay a $6 parking fee at the USNWC unless guest has an annual parking pass. Annual parking passes are available through the USNWC for $50
  • Emergency Policy
    • The USNWC does not conduct trail rescues in the event of an emergency. Participants must call 911 if emergency vehicles and operations are needed. There are 911 trail location markers to communicate where emergency personnel can find you
