Engineers Without Borders University of South Florida chapter (EWB USF) is currently part of two international projects: building latrines in Bolivia and building rain catchment systems in the Dominican Republic (DR). The Bolivia project is in a small rural community where very few members of the community can afford to build their own bathrooms. The latrine or outhouse will ensure that they have a sanitary place to use the restroom. After meeting with the community in December of 2018, EWB USF plans to return to Bolivia in December of 2019 to build 4 latrines alongside the community. The partnership with these communities are a minimum of 5-years with consistent communication over the phone and trips every year to ensure the success of these projects. Not only will these projects directly benefit the communities, but it is also a tremendous learning and humbling experience for the students involved. The funds raised for these trips go directly to the materials to build the latrines and rain catchment systems and to support the travel costs to send the students to work alongside the community members. EWB USF estimates that it will cost $12,000 to build 4 latrines and send 8 USF students to Bolivia. Donate on GoFundMe
