Participants will climb 2,071 stairs at Gila River Arena in Glendale beginning at 8 a.m. on Wed., Sept. 11 in honor of first responders who lost their lives at the World Trade Center on 9/11 and recognizes those who continue to protect us from foreign and domestic threats. There were 110 floors and 2,071 steps in each of the Twin Towers when the buildings collapsed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Photographs of fallen heroes will line the stairs during the challenge, giving participants the opportunity to acknowledge those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of others.
Community members can pre-register to participate in the 9-11 Tower Challenge for $35 per climber prior to Sun., Aug. 25. Pre-registration guarantees participants a t-shirt, swag bag and completion coin on the day of the event. Beginning Mon., Aug. 26, the registration fee will increase to $40.
Presented by the 9-11 Tower Challenge Foundation, proceeds will benefit the 100 Club of Arizona and Arizona Fighter Country.
