Event Description

Your legs will scream. You'll gasp for breath. And when you're done you'll have climbed nearly 2500 vertical feet in 2.5 miles to complete the most challenging mountain run in Maine.

The Race

The Sugarloaf Uphill Climb begins at the bottom of the SuperQuad and follows the Binder trail to the Sugarloaf summit - the second highest peak in Maine at 4,237 feet. Following the race, racers will descend down the mountain to the Beach where a hearty lunch and cold beverages will be served. All racers will receive lunch and a beverage (complimentary beer for 21-plus only).

This race will occur rain or shine, and it is not uncommon to encounter snow at the summit of the mountain, so bring plenty of extra layers. Trucks will be provided to transport racer bags from the start line to the finish and will depart 15 minutes prior to the start of the race.

There will be two water stations along the course as well as one at the finish line. There will also be hot chocolate and a snack at the finish. Please carry any additional water you may need. We do encourage anyone who would prefer to carry their own water bottles to please do so.

Registration

Purchase tickets early for the best deals. Day of registration will not be an option this year. Please be sure to register online!

$45 until September 25th. Price increases to $55 on September 25th. Registration closes on October 9th.

The race start will be held in waves of 50 runners, organized by-bib order, and staggered every 15 minutes. We’ll be assigning bib numbers in the order of which completed registrations are received, and will not be able to make adjustments or accommodate special requests on race day.

If you wish to run with friends or family, you can sign-up for the same wave, however, we can’t guarantee that you will be placed side-by-side unless you register all participants in a single transaction. If you have questions, please email prior to completing your registration.

*All registrants will receive a complimentary snack at the finish line, as well as beer and chili at the Beach afterward.

Bib Pick-up

There will be two available time slots for mandatory pre-race bib pick-up. This will take place as a drive-thru in our 30-minute parking lot Saturday evening 4-6 PM and Sunday morning 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM. Racers will not be able to pick up a bib after 9:30 AM on race day.

When picking up your bib you may remain in your vehicle, and please wear a mask. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. All registered racers MUST be present to pick-up race bibs. Friends and family will not be able to pick up for you.

All runners will be required to fill out a pre-arrival screening questionnaire, which will be emailed to you 24 hours prior to race day. You will be asked to answer the following screening questions prior to picking up your bib:

  • Have you experienced or displayed any symptoms consistent with the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, such as fever or chills, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath or other respiratory symptoms, muscle aches, severe fatigue, or changes in taste or smell?
  • In the last 14 days, have you been in close contact with anyone who is confirmed to have COVID-19?
  • Are you traveling from out of state, and if so, which state? For those traveling from certain states such as Massachusetts and Rhode Island, it is the state of Maine’s policy to self-quarantine for 14 days prior to arrival or for 14 days upon arriving, or receive negative test results no longer than 72 hours prior of arrival. Participants traveling from NH, VT, CT, NY, and NJ, are exempt from these requirements.

Awards

Celebrate your accomplishments with a complimentary beverage and lunch on the beach. Due to current CDC guidelines for public gatherings, we will mail winners their prizes in lieu of an awards ceremony this year.

The Triple Crown

Typically this would require that you successfully complete the Sugarloaf Marathon or 15K, The Flume, and the Uphill Climb. Since we had to cancel the Marathon & 15K due to Covid-19, there will be no triple crown prizes this year.

If you were already registered for the Marathon or 15K prior to the cancellation, and if you successfully complete the Flume on August 22nd, and the Uphill Climb on October 11th, you’ll still receive a 10% off registration fees for all three races next year.

Covid-19 Update

We ask if you have been exposed to COVID-19 or experience any symptoms, please do not participate in this race. Adhering to these policies is essential for the safety of all participants and volunteers. Please know that all volunteers will be answering the same screening questions required of participants, as well as getting a temperature reading, prior to the race.

In order to keep everyone safe, we do ask that you practice social distancing, at least 6 feet apart. We ask that you wear a mask when social distancing is not possible, especially when picking up your bib, when entering the building to use the bathroom, or when getting your complimentary snack and beverage after the race. Please have your mask with you while racing, but you do not need to wear it while racing. It’s best to have it for when you stop for water or if you need medical attention. We also ask to respect each other’s space while on course. Give a heads up when passing each other, such as “On your left!”

Be well and be safe!
