2020 surely has put forth challenges in ways many of us have never experienced but it has also proven our strength and resilience as a community. Each year, Vernon Recreation hosts a Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot to raise funds and collect non perishables for the Harvest House Food Pantry located in Sussex, NJ. This year, just as with everything else so far, we have to think outside of the box to be able to continue with this fun family friendly tradition. It is also a year where there is an increasing need for food in many households and your registration will go directly to assist this much needed community program despite those challenges. Due to COVID 19 and for the well being of all of our participants, we made the switch to a Virtual 5K race/walk and are proud to announce the Vernon Free Range Virtual Turkey Trot!

The Harvest House Harvest House Community Lunch Program was established by 13 Vernon Township High School students in 1997 as the VTHS Hunger Project and  is a nonprofit 501c(3) corporation that continues with its mission to provide nourishing meals in a clean, welcoming safe environment to those in need. They currently serve 50+ people A DAY through a pickup and go system and together we will help them continue to meet this community need as we head into the colder months. 

The Vernon Free Range Virtual 5K is here to give your Turkey Trot a breath of fresh autumn air! It's easy as pumpkin pie! Sign up, decide your route, get out your finest feathers and hobble before you gobble! Complete your 5k free range - anywhere, anytime during the week of November 21 - 28. While we will miss seeing everyone Thanksgiving morning, this does add some flexibility that we can all appreciate! You can go to a trail, a track, your neighborhood park or even on a treadmill - it's your choice! Run or walk.... on your own, with the family or create a team with some friends - this is a fun tradition to kickoff this day of giving and benefit such a worthy cause.

Free as a bird (individual) registration - $15.00 (Price increases to $20 after 11/1/20). Create a team of 4 or more - $10 each participant (Price increases to $15 per person after 11/1/20). Children under 10 - FREE!

Goodies from local merchants in a reusable tote
Race T-Shirt for paid registrants by 11/1/20 (children or extra shirts can be ordered for $10 each in the add on section)

Race bags will be available for pickup any day after 11/15 in the Department of Recreation at the Vernon Municipal Building at 21 Church St. between 9:00am - 3:00pm. 
Please bring a non perishable item to donate when picking up your race bag - every bit helps.
