Event Description

Calling all animal lovers! The Auburn University Chapter of the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) is hosting its fifth annual 5K. This year the race will be called Shelby's Shuffle. All of the proceeds will go to Shelby Safe Pet, who recognizes the strong human animal bond and how that bond can be manipulated in abusive relationships.  They provide a way for domestic violence victims to seek assistance confident that their pet will receive free veterinary care and boarding until they can be reunited. The race will begin in the beautiful Town Creek Park of Auburn, Alabama on Sunday, November 17th, at 2:00 pm. Registration includes the following: 5K run or 1 mile fun run, t-shirt, participant bags, food/drinks, and lots of fun! Bring your dogs and have a great time! (Please do not bring intact males, in heat females, aggressive dogs, or any dog that is not up to date on vaccinations.)

Race packet pickup: Pickup will be on race day, starting at 1:00pm and will be open until 15 minutes prior to the start of the race at Town Creek Park. This is where you will get your t-shirts and participant bags!

Registration details: Registration will be $25 for the 5K run and $15 for the 1 mile run until November 8th. From November 9th to November 16th, the price will increase to $30 and $20, respectively. In order to guarantee a free t-shirt, you must register by November 5th. After this date, extra T-shirts will be first come, first serve. Day of registration will end at 1:30pm on November 17th and will cost $45.

Winner Categories: In case anyone needs some motivation, awards will be given to the top 3 male and female participants of the 5K. We will also have an award for the 1st male and female with a dog. The award ceremony will be starting around 3pm.

Parking at Town Creek Park: There are limited parking spaces at Town Creek Park and it is estimated for these spots to fill quickly. We have been advised by Auburn Parks and Rec to utilize Wrights Mill Road School parking lot which conveniently has a walking trail straight to Town Creek Park! If available and weather permitting, additional parking will be located in the grassy field at the park. If you have friends participating in the 5K, please try to arrange carpooling with them in order to cut down on the number of cars.

Race Route: The official race route has been added to the 5K runsignup page for your viewing; the race begins and ends within Town Creek Park.

Bring your dogs! Remember, this is a dog friendly 5K and we encourage everyone to bring their fur babies on Sunday. Please do not bring intact males, in heat females, aggressive dogs, or any dog that is not up to date on vaccinations.
