Event Description

For almost 4 decades the Tarpon Springs Rotary Sprint Triathlon has been one of the most well organized and volunteer supported triathlon and duathlons in Florida run by a professional group of race organizers. This sprint distance race is a favorite for first timers all the way to those who come back every year to grow their collection of Tarpon Tri awesome cog wheel finisher's medals (one issued to every participant in triathlon/duathlon/aqua bike and each relay team member). The race is a fundraiser which has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to the youth of Tarpon Springs through scholarsips and leadership programs by Rotarians who work hard to serve you in service above self.

The Tarpon Tri takes place on beautiful Fred Howard Park Beach and the island only hold 600 cars so that is our sell out number! We encourage you to take advantage of the early registration donation as the price increases as the race begins to fill. We do keep a waiting list after we reach 600 registrants so if you find that registration is closed please immediately email XanaduRaceManagement@gmail.com so that we can add you to the wait list then invite you to register as cancellations come in prior to race week. For specific questions you can text Suzanne at 727-CAN-RACE or visit the race website at www.TarponSpringsTriathlon.com

Event details and schedule

The race is on Saturday,  September 19, 2020 and begins with a quarter mile swim at 7:30 a.m. off of Fred Howard Beach which is a popule swim location for tourists and beach goers.  The bike portion of the race is a 10 mile scenic route and paved and closed roads taking you across Fred Howard Causeway and into historic Tarpon Springs. Our bike course is one of our favorite ways to showcase our beautiful town and it is well staff by the Tarpon Police Department and race volunteers. The run ends inside Fred Howard Park with a 5K that takes you back to the finish line right next to transition area.
The duathlon is a 2Km run/10 mile bike, 5K run
The aqua bike category is just the swim and the bike and your race end in bike transition so come over to the outset to get your finisher's medal.  This is a fantastic category for those who are unable to run due to injury or circumstance but we still would love to have you in attendance.

Then the fun begins and it has made this race famous...the post race party food is out of this world and unique to any race you have ever attended. Rotarians bake dozens of homemade cookies and gather food from some of the best Greek restaurants in the world as Tarpon Springs is the hub for one of the most cultural Greek communities. From wraps, to spanikopita, to baklava, we will satisfy your appetite as you cross the finish line.  Wash it all down with an ice cold beer at our Michelob Ultra post race extravaganza.  Awards are presented 5 deep in standard age groups and the give away's are abundant.

An email will go out late in race week with arrival instructions to all pre registered participants with updates. Packet pick up times and locations can be found on the race website www.TarponSpringsTriathlon.com for specific email questions please email SuzanneHensleeTriathlon@gmail.com

Results are posted race day at www.DRCsports.com with 5 split times gathered. Awards go 5 deep in standard age group categories and top 3 in Clydesdale or Athena with the top relay team 1st place only.  If you regularly place 1st or 2nd in your age group you are encouraged to register for the elite division...please email Suzanne for the free code for all elite or professional participants.

For those of you who visit the park regularly please understand the county is very good about removing the speed bumps on the causeway the evening prior to the race. Due to so many hundreds arriving on the island at 1 time you are encouraged to plan to be at the venue at 6:00 a.m. on race morning transition opens at 6:00 a.m. and closes at 7:15 a.m. when all that bleach should then proceed to triathlon start on the beach or duathlon start at the  roundabout just outside of transition on the North end.
