Half Marathon Training Program - 16 & 23 week Programs starts Saturday, December 7, 2019 (or Sunday Dec 8).                                                                                In 2020, Race Team RVA Running Club is devoting a significant portion of our training to the Marine Corp Marathon (MCM) races.  This includes:

  1. MCM 17.75k (11.03 miles) in March 28, 2020 (finishers get access granted into the MCM 44th marathon in October 2020),
  2. MCM Historic Half Marathon (May 17, 2020), and
  3. MCM 44th Marathon (October 2020)

Our 2020 Winter program will focus on training that aligns to the MCM 17.75k race on March 28 and the MCM Historic Half on May 17.  You can train for one or both of these during the winter program, plus you can register now (as a special offer) to continue training with us during the summer 2020 to train for the MCM Marathon in October, 2020.

MCM 17.75k (11.03 miles) race:  This is a 16 week program that starts on December 7 (or 8th) and continues through March 28, 2020 race day.  The Marine Corps 17.75K course in scenic Prince William Forest Park features a 11.03 mile run over rolling hills and winding turns in a densely wooded backdrop. The 17.75K starts and finishes outside Montclair Tabernacle Church located in Dumfries VA, near Marine Corps Base Quantico and sends runners on a course through Prince William Forest Park.  The significance of this race is that all finishers age 14 and above will receive an email with a dedicated link to the online registration form for the 44th MCM. Registration with the Guaranteed Access code must be completed within the dedicated window of time to run the MCM marathon in October.  You will still need to pay for the race, but you don't have to worry about getting in or waiting for a lottery to be accepted.  Important:  the first 100 people that register for the Race Team RVA Running Club's 17.75k training team will be given access to register and run the 17.75k race, and upon finishing, will receive the Guaranteed Access code to run the MCM marathon in October.  A special invite will be given to those that train with us and we will provide you with a code to register so you don't need to pre-register for this race now.

MCM Historic Half Marathon:  This is a 23 week program that starts on December 7 (or Dec 8) and continues through May 17, race day.  The 13.1 mile run in Fredericksburg, VA boasts a fantastic finisher medal, terrific technical participant shirt and a start ceremony concluding with the shout of a town crier and the blast of a vintage musket.  You must register for this race through the MCM registration process which opens on November 13, 2019.

      • 17.75k Training Program Costs:  $35.00 (plus the registration fee for the MCM 17.75k that you will have to purchase through MCM using our code - race on Saturday, March 28, 2020).  This is a 16 week program.
      • 13.1 Historic Half Training Costs:  $55.00 (plus the registration for for the MCM Historic Half - race on Sunday, May 17, 2010).  This is a 23 week program and includes the 17.75k race (optional) and the 13.1 Half race.

Just Run Maintenance Training Option:  In addition, we will continue to offer our just run maintenance option for those that just want to run with the team over the course of the training but don't plan to run or train to run a race in the spring.   You will receive all the benefits the the 2 programs above, including a team shirt, but will not receive special routes or a training plan.  You run as far as you want with the team but you make your own route if you are not following the team's route that weekend.  Cost for this program is $25 for 23 weeks or any portion thereof.

Note:  you can use this plan to train for any other race but you will be responsible for modifying the training plan to align to your race (e.g. if you are using this as a training for the Shamrock race, you will need to adjust the plan to align your training to your race date - and you will be required to modify (add to or take away) routes that align to the mileage you desire for your run.
