Event Description

The Foundation for New Education Initiatives (FNEI) and Miami-Dade County Public Schools' Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho will team up once again to host the 5th Annual Race for Education benefiting local public schools. FNEI will donate a percentage of race proceeds to participating schools based on the number or participants each school team registers. Participants are encouraged to choose and run for a school team, so FNEI can enhance school fund-raising totals. FNEI has distributed nearly  $160,000 back to the participating schools. 

Race or walk for education, and help support Miami-Dade County Public Schools!

Race Start Time: 7:30 a.m.
Location: Maurice A. Ferré Park, 1075 Biscayne Blvd. (formerly, Museum Park)

*Registration for Multiple Events Permitted

- 5K Adult Runner/Walker Option: $30.00 + Registration Fee
Timed Event, Age Group Awards/Team Awards Presented
Preregistration Required, Race Bib, T-shirt, Medal Provided

- 5K Student Runner/Walker Option: $10.00 + Registration Fee
Timed Event, Age Group Awards/Team Awards Presented
Preregistration Required, Race Bib, T-shirt, Medal Provided

- Kids 1 Mile Run Option: $10.00 + Registration Fee
Primarily for Miami-Dade County elementary school and middle school students. Timed Event, Preregistration Required, Race Bib, T-shirt, Medal Provided 

-Kids Dash Option: $10.00 +  Registration Fee
(Ages 2-9) Preregistration Required, Race Bib, and T-shirt, Medal Provided

Race Packets Include the following:

  • Race bib

  • Goody bag (while supplies last)

You must have register for SCHOOL or MDCPS DEPARTMENT Team prior to FRIDAY 2/21/2020 TO BE INCLUDED IN CAPTAIN PACKET PICK-UP AND  DISTRIBUTION)

All team packets will be picked up by school or department Team Captain ONLY or designated school representative at the School District Office: 1450 NE 2nd Ave; Miami, FL 33132; SBAB ROOM 226 (School Board Admin Building) Team Captain will distribute to ALL team members.   

Option 2 (if School Team or MDCPS Department NOT Selected)(All other individual participants not associated with a school or MDCPS Department)
Race bib MUST be picked up on RACE DAY Saturday March 7, 2020 at 6:00 AM., Maurice A. Ferré Park, 1075 Biscayne Blvd.

Race start time is 7:30 AM

  • FRIDAY, MARCH 6, 2020: *TEAM CAPTAINS ONLY*- 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM | MDCPS District Office (SBAB): 1450 NE 2 Avenue, Room 226
  • SATURDAY, MARCH 7, 2020: (RACE DAY) ALL INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANTS - 6:00 AM - 7:25 AM | Maurice A. Ferré Park (Museum Park): 1075 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132
     

RACE DAY SCHEDULE: (subject to change)

6:00 a.m. — Race Packet Pickup/Race Day Registration Opens  
7:10 a.m. — Warm Up
7:30 a.m. — Race Star ( on Biscayne Blvd)  
8:30 a.m. — Student 1 Mile Start (Preregistered Participants Only)
8:50 a.m. — Kids Dash Start (Ages 2-9, gather at main stage area)
 
GEAR CHECK TENT: (near on-site registration area @ Maurice A. Ferré Park (Museum Park) on Race Day): Place gear in clear bag provided to all participants.  Write name and bib number on provided sticker and apply sticker to bag.  Retrieve gear bag after race at Gear Check Tent by providing last name and race bib. Clear gear bags are included with preregistration packet.    
 
POST-RACE CELEBRATIONS: Mac Edwards will provide complimentary fruit samples, light snacks and water.  Also enjoy the sponsor activation with complimentary bounce houses and face painters for the kids! (End time 10:00 AM)

ON- SITE REGISTRATION: Race Day on-site registration is available at the large registration tent at Maurice A. Ferré Park (Museum Park):1075 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33132. Cash and VISA accepted.  

T -SHIRTS: Race t-shirts** can be exchanged for a different size only on race day. ** Subject to availability.
WATER STATIONS: Located on Watson Island and just past the finish line at Maurice A. Ferré Park (Museum Park).     
RACE/BIB NUMBER: Participants must wear and display the official 2020 Superintendent 5K Challenge bib number on the front side of the body.  Only those wearing an official race bib will be permitted to be on course and receive a finishers’ medal.
