Event Description

Cascades Cycling Club is proud to present a bicycle tour that showcases south central Michigan’s rural roads, summer scenery, its wine country and delicious, locally sourced food.

The 8th annual Pedal & Whine Bike Tour will be held on Saturday, August 1, at Sandhill Crane Vineyards. Join us for this very popular, fully supported ride that has grown significantly in each of its first seven years.  Enjoy bicycling along the scenic, lightly travelled roads of eastern Jackson county and the Waterloo Recreation area.  With routes of 8, 16, 31, 53 (new for 2020) and 68 miles, cyclists can choose to ride as much or as little as they like. Also new for 2020, riders selecting the 16 - 68 mile routes will have the option of including a newly opened segment of the Mike Levine Lakelands Trail.  All routes are fully supported by roving "SAG" vehicles so participants can ride worry free.

Event details and schedule

The tour will begin at Sandhill Crane Vineyards, 4724 Walz Road, Jackson, Michigan 49201.  The club encourages new riders and families to join the bike tour fun by offering a shorter 8 mile long family loop, along with longer loops of 16, 31, 53 and 68 miles for more experienced riders. All loops begin and end with a visit to Sandhill Crane Vineyards. A delicious lunch is provided for all pre-registrants (registration by 7/26) by Sandhill Crane Vineyards between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Lunch for non-riders will also be available for purchase during the pre-registration period.  Riders will have the option of purchasing wine at the Vineyards. The Vineyards will be offering both a special wine tasting package and craft beer selections for this event starting at 10 a.m.

All riders are supported by roving “SAG” vehicles to aid and assist riders. Coffee and light snacks will be provided at the Vineyards at the start of tour. The tour also provides a rest stop with cold drinks and energy snacks at the midway point for all 31, 53 and 68 mile route riders.

Detailed maps will be provided to all riders. As an added bonus, pre-registered riders will be entered into a drawing for a new bike on the day of the tour.

The Cascades Cycling club donates $1 per rider to the League of Michigan Bicyclists for this tour.
