Event Description
Do you like to run? Do you like to play poker? Do you like supporting worthy causes with your participation? If so, this is the event for YOU! This race format is totally unique for our area and has been a lot of fun for our participants for the last 2 years; we are looking forward to bringing an even bigger and better event for 2020!
Concept: Runners complete as many 1/2 mile loops on our closed, gravel course in ONE HOUR as they wish. For each lap completed, a card will be placed in an envelope for you by a volunteer standing 6 ft from the course. Runners must complete 5 loops (2.5 miles) in order to play poker. There are no age groups since the winners aren't based on speed so, bring your kids and grandmas - unless they’re medically fragile, in which case, DO NOT bring them. Never know who lady luck is going to smile on (but it won’t be you if you give your granny the ‘rona)!
NEW THIS YEAR!!! We are bringing a TEAM EVENT to our 2020 run! Grab 3 of your best good friends (all male, all female, or mix it up!) and see how far the 4 of you can go together as a team! Same premise - each runner will line up and start at the same time. There will be 2 categories for team prizes: Most Laps Completed and Most Funds Raised, but each individual runner will also be allowed to enter their poker hand for the prizes in their division.
Read these new conditions/rules for the COVID year:
WE ARE NOT PROVIDING ANY HYDRATION IN ANY FORM THIS YEAR. BRING ALL YOUR OWN WATER, SPORTS DRINK, ETC. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE CUPS. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE COOLERS. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE ICE. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE A SINGLE THING YOU WILL DRINK, DRINK OUT OF, SET A DRINK ON. NOTHING. IT’S JUST AN HOUR - YOU CAN CREW YOURSELF FOR AN HOUR ON A LOOP.
THERE WILL BE NO AWARD CEREMONY. AFTER YOU RUN, YOU GO TO YOUR CAR, GET IN, AND DRIVE AWAY. WE WILL RACK AND STACK THE CARDS, AND DO A FB VIDEO OR LIVE TO ANNOUNCE WINNERS. WE WILL MAIL PRIZES OR MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR LOCAL PICKUP. WE WILL NOT BE LOITERING THIS YEAR. WE HATE IT, BECAUSE LOITERING’S OUR FAVORITE! 😢

ALL SPECTATORS & RUNNERS NEED TO OBSERVE THE 6 FT RULE FROM ALL VOLUNTEERS. PERIOD. WHAT Y’ALL DO AMONGST YOURSELVES IS ON YOU, BUT STAY AWAY FROM US. WE ALSO HATE THIS, BUT...we are serious about this. I know most people are ready to get back to normal life and be in each other’s bubbles again, but we are not. The only way this event gets put on is because my family volunteers for it, and they don’t want your germs. They don’t want sweaty hugs, handshakes, high-fives, or anything else. Maybe next year. Again, not trying to be rude or mean, but not trying to get sick, either. We’ve got small kids & elderly folks we are protecting like it’s our job because it’s our job. Please respect that or wait it out til next year.
Packet Pickup: All packets must be picked up 12:30 - 1:45 on race day.
All proceeds from this race will benefit the Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope, which strives to raise awareness and funding for research for ovarian cancer. *Did you know that your PAP does NOT test for ovarian cancer? There is NO TEST for this disease!
