Event Description
Benefiting the TriLatino Youth Triathlon Program
Join me for my favorite thing: A birthday run in the park plus beer at Farrell's (the oldest still-operating bar in Brooklyn). Kicking it up for the big 5-0. This year it's a real, professionally timed 5K with prizes for Masters (40-49) and Grand Masters (50+) runners, who will start first and have the opportunity to break the tape. There's something fun for the under-40's too but this day is about older runners still kickin' butt.
Yes, the weather will be terrible--it's January in New York! It could be frigid cold, a blizzard, possibly both. But unless the parks department officially closes the park, we'll run.
This event benefits the amazing TriLatino Junior Team, which provides coaching and gear to Bronx-based teenagers each year, culminating in a sprint triathlon. The biggest need is money to buy second-hand bikes for participants. Registration for the 5K will be at 'cost' to cover permits and insurance, and you'll be invited to add a tax-deductible donation to the Junior Team.
Bag drop, bib pickup and race-day registration at Farrell's bar starting at 9:30am (oldest still-operating bar in Brooklyn!). Race at 10:00am, then congregate back at Farrell's for beer, cake, and awards.
