KC Mothers in Charge - Who We Are

KC Mothers in Charge is a group of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and a caring community committed to working to prevent others from experiencing the tragedy of homicide.  Our Mission is to reduce violent crime through prevention, education and intervention, and to guide and support the families of victims.  Our Vision is a KC community safe for all, where families are empowered and supported.

Pee Wee's Run - Kicking off National Crime Victims' Rights Week

Join KC Mothers in Charge for our 2nd Annual Pee Wee’s Run.  In 2020, we will have both a 5K and 10K race option!  Pee Wee’s Run is named after KC Mothers in Charge Founder and Executive Director Rosilyn Temple’s son, Antonio “Pee Wee” Thompson, who was found murdered in his apartment in 2011.  Pee Wee's Run will kick off National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, a week dedicated to promoting victims' rights and honoring crime victims.

Since Pee Wee’s death, Rosilyn has dedicated her life to helping others. KC Mothers in Charge provides support for families who have lost someone due to homicide, including support at the homicide scene, emergency assistance, a 24-hour crisis line, weekly check-in phone calls, monthly support groups, individual, family and group counseling, and lots of love and peer-to-peer support.

Rosilyn responds to nearly every homicide scene in the Kansas City, Missouri area to comfort families at the scene. “I look for the mother first,” Rosilyn says of visiting homicide scenes, “Because I know she needs a hug from me.”

Join KC Mothers in Charge for our 2nd Annual Pee Wee's Run in honor of lives lost to violence in Kansas City. It’s time to come together!

Race Announcer Bryan Busby

Coming to KMBC 9 NEWS in 1985, Chief Meteorologist Bryan Busby quickly established himself as Kansas City's leading meteorologist. In addition, Bryan serves as Chief Meteorologist for The Chiefs Fox Football Radio Network and is heard on NewsRadio 980 and 98.1 FM, KMBZ.  Fun, interaction, and community outreach are key ingredients that make Bryan Kansas City's favorite television personality. "I never know what to expect when I do an on-location weather report. Spontaneous reactions make my job fun and sometimes very challenging."  A natural showman with wit and personality, Bryan's performing is not limited to television. Bryan is also the principal timpanist for the Kansas City Civic Orchestra performing five or six times a year. In addition to performing and teaching, Bryan is the Principal Guest Conductor of the Kansas City Youth Symphony, having conducted that group in Yardley Hall at Johnson County Community College, Kemper Arena, the United States Pavilion at the 1992 World's Fair in Seville, Spain, and most recently in Carnegie Hall in New York City.  In addition to his musical abilities, Bryan is known by friends to be a terrific imitator of cartoon voices.  To further a hobby he began in grade school, Bryan plans to pursue a job doing voice-overs when he retires from broadcasting.

Race Director Cara Gilmore

For her 40th birthday on June 29, 2018, community volunteer Cara Gilmore ran 40 miles across Kansas City, Missouri and raised more than $16,000 for KC Mothers in Charge.  For a second year in a row, Cara brings her expertise to KC Mothers in Charge serving as Race Director for its 2nd Annual Pee Wee's Run.  Cara is a wife and mother of two boys, Owen and Miles. She is an avid runner; she loves the peace it brings and the opportunity to see her city on foot. She moved to Kansas City from St. Louis when she was 12-years-old and has loved it ever since. She is the owner of Power Plus Pilates and has been a Pilates instructor and personal trainer for 14 years. Her work brings much joy as she gets to improve her clients' quality of life by bringing ease of movement and functional exercise into their lives. Cara loves the work that KC Mothers in Charge is doing to provide support to the community.
