The Tuscarora High School (THS) Athletic and Instrumental Music Boosters are very excited to share the first 5k event to be held at THS with our students and staff, families, and the entire community on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Making this event especially momentous is the joining together of our award winning student athletes and musicians as they work side by side to benefit each of their respective programs. Because 100% of the athletics budget is derived from fundraising and about 80% of the music program needs our financial support to continue, proceeds from this 5K race will help our students to secure funding to purchase much needed new athletic equipment and instruments for our students, including components of an entire drumline and new string instruments for the orchestral ensemble. These costs are not covered by FCPS and so we must reach out to our local community for support.
The running course will take us throughout the beautiful campus of THS beginning with a kids’ fun run starting at 7:30 a.m. and followed by the 5K run at 8:00 a.m. This race, while unofficial as any sort of qualifier, is a great lead up race to the annual Frederick Running Festival which takes place two weeks later in downtown Frederick. Our event will offer a fabulous opportunity to “warm-up” or to continue training in preparation for the festival! And, of course, it’s also a great way to support your local school programs and be a part of our community.
We will have placement awards and prizes, refreshments and lots of music and energy on the day of the race. T-shirts for the runners and other goodies will be provided at the race packet pick-up at THS, 5312 Ballenger Creek Pike, Frederick, MD 21703. On the morning of Saturday, April 18, we will have a table in front of the main entrance to the school for packet pick up from 9:00 a.m. until noon. Packet pick-up will also be available on the day of the race beginning at 6:30 a.m.
Help support your local school and come out and help make this race a successful fundraiser for both of these worthy THS programs!
