Event Description
The Fallen Heroes 5K was a race started 11 years ago to memorialize those heroes who gave their lives for this country and in honor of two of UF’s fallen heroes, Navy SEAL James Suh, and Naval Special Warfare Officer Thomas Fouke. Both were UF alumni and died while serving their country. The men and women of our armed services have given their all for us, risking their lives at the cost of our freedom, running this race is the least we can do in honor of them. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Gainesville Fisher House a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. For members of our Armed Forces, retirees, veterans, and their families, the Fisher House program offers shelter and support during a medical crisis. Fisher Houses offer a comforting “home away from home” while a loved one is receiving care at the local Gainesville VA hospital. This special support is even more important to a family during the most stressful time – the hospitalization of a wounded or injured service member.
