Event Description
This the is the 50th Annaul event! And we have some special before, during and after events planned. Come join us in what is usually the peak of fall in the Adirondacks. This year's event is a fund raiser for youth drug and alcohol prevention programs in the region.
Race starts at the Olympic Skating Oval on Main Street in the middle of Lake Placid, the routes head North, through the center of Lake Placid's business district. The course proceeds along Mirror Lake and then onto Route 73 passing the North Elba Horse Show Grounds and the Olympic Ski Jumping complex. Runners then turn left onto a flat, out and back road along the AuSable river. Excellent scenery and changing leaves at the peak of the fall season. Runners will return up the only significant uphill to the finish at the North Elba Horse Show Ground. A traditional runner’s event, with low entry fees. Come run it again, or enjoy it for the first time.
Event details and schedule
The Half Marathon & 10 K both begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Olympic Skating Oval on Main Street. The race course will officially close at 12:00 p.m. and any remaining runners may finish, however, their time will not be part of the finisher’s results.
AID STATIONS ALONG THE WAY
The Half Marathon will have 7 aid stations along the course, located at miles 2.5, 4.5, 6, 7, 8.3, 8.8, 10 & 11 miles. All aid stations will offer water, and Gatorade, with the last 2 offering gels.
There is a Free Post Race Food and drink area, available at the finish area for athletes only.
PARKING
Because the race finishes in a different location than the start, runners are urged to park at the finish (Horse Show Grounds) and catch the shuttle to the start. Parking is FREE at the finish, and is not along the streets and in parking lots close to the start. We have added another bus and the shuttle to/from the finish/start, see hours of operation below. There also is a trolley that operates on a regular schedule which can be used, however this is not an advisable alternative to the shuttle.
PACKET PICK-UP
Packet pick up is at the Lake Placid Beach house (31 Parkside Drive) on Friday, October 05, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, then on race day from 5:30 AM to 7:30 AM SHARP at the Olympic Oval (Starting area).
FREE RACE PHOTOs:Again, this year, we will be teaming up with Patrick Hendrick Photo’s, offering, FREE, unlimited, downloads of print-quality event photos. Photos will begin appearing online the night of the race.
