Event Description
Obesity is a rampant major public health problem in the United States. In the U.S., 38 percent of adults over 20 are obese, as well as more than 17 percent of kids between 6 and 11, according to the U.S. Centers For Disease Control. Approximately one-third of American adults and 17 percent of children are obese, and even more are overweight. When combined, obesity and overweightedness are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use.
The St Luke’s Weight Management Center is taking an active role in making everyone aware of the importance of becoming active in the fight against obesity by hosting our 6th Annual Healthy Steps at Any Size 5K Walk. Our hope is to encourage people of all sizes and shapes to participate in this activity, promote the importance of just moving, have some fun and exercise while doing it.
