UNC Adams School of Dentistry's Student National Dental Association is hosting the annual Oral Cancer 5K Run/Walk & Community Health Fair! The event (rain or shine) will kick off at the UNC Chapel Hill Old Well Saturday May 30, 2020 at 8 AM.
In honor of UNC Adam’s School of Dentistry’s very own oral cancer survivor, Dr. Scott Eidson, all proceeds will be donated to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide accessible and affordable treatment to head and neck cancer patients throughout North Carolina.
Our community health fair efforts are to create oral cancer awareness, and to educate the public on the importance of prevention and screening to assist in early detection of this disease. We will be offering *FREE( oral cancer screenings on-site, in addition to diverse activities and services offered by various health profession volunteers to provide information about health and wellness as a whole.
About the Cause: The American Cancer Society estimates over 53,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer in 2020, and approximately 1 in 5 will not survive. Profits generated from SNDA's Oral Cancer 5K Run/Walk will be donated to to fund life-saving research and reduce the incidence of oral and oropharyngeal cancers in the U.S. population. EVENT DETAILS
When:Saturday May 30, 2020 at 8 AM (rain or shine)
Where:The race will start at the Old Well at the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. An approximate address is: 180 E. Cameron Avenue, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514. The Community Health Fair will run throughout the event at the Campus Y Courtyard across the from the Old Well.
Race Route:The running route will be the Franklin 5K, a USATF-certified course. Electronic chip timing will be used. Strollers, wagons, and friendly pets welcome! Pets must be on a leash at all times.
Payment & Registration:
$25.00 + $2.50 processing fees - Register by Friday, May 29 $30.00+ $2.50 processing fees - Race-day registration Saturday, May 30
In-person registration will be available 7:30-8:00AM on race-day at the check-in table.
Dri-Fit T-Shirt:Participants who pre-register by Thursday, May 14 will be guaranteed a DriFit T-shirt. Participants who sign up between May 15 and May 30 will receive a T-shirt as available.
Packet Pick-Up: Packets include your T-shirt and race bib with pins. Dental school affiliates may pick up packets at the dental school atrium from 10:00AM-2:00PM on Friday, May 29. Packets may also be picked up 7:30-8:00AM on race day Saturday, May 30.
Awards: Prizes will be given to the overall first, second, and third place male and female runners, as well as the top male and female runners in each age group: 15 and under, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+.
