Event Description

This fifth annual summer 5k will take place along the multi-use path, beginning at Steam Pump Ranch. This race will be run under COVID-19 virus precautions; please see below for more information. Participants have the option to run/walk this race on Sunday, July 19 at Steam Pump Ranch, or run/walk it virtually (at Steam Pump Ranch or a location of their choice) during the July 18 - July 20 time frame.

Children 12 and under race for free with a paying adult.

 

All entries registered by June 19 will receive a unisex t-shirt. Please indicate size when you enter.

 

Race day registration begins at 5 a.m. on July 19. Race Day registration will be $25.

 

Proceeds from this race benefit the Town's Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund.

Age group and overall awards will still be given, but they will be announced in the days following the virtual event (July 20-21) and pickup of awards will take place at the Oro Valley Community Center. Everyone will be eligible for overall and age group prizes, whether they do the race in person or virtually.

In-Person Race

· No packet pickup event

· People show up to Steam Pump Ranch anytime between 5AM-9AM on July 19

o Pick up their packets/bibs there. People can come and register any time between 5 a.m. - 9 a.m. and run/walk any time between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. 

o Day of registration available - People can pay with cash, check, or credit card that they can slide through a reader themselves

o All items will be kept cleaned and the card reader will be sanitized throughout the event

· People can park at the QT or Basis parking area so they can spread out instead of all being at Steam Pump

· People can start at any time and run the normal route - through SPR, onto the Loop, turnaround at Catalina State Park. We can provide maps they can take with them. Course will also be marked and staffed.

o Water stop with mini water bottles at the turnaround

· Groups of 15 or more will be asked to stagger start times by about one minute to ensure social distancing.

· Participants will follow social distancing standards while on the course. While passing another runner, try and maintain 6 feet from them.

· The start/finish arch will be in place.

· People can time themselves and then show staff their watches when they finish

o If they don't have a watch, they will be timed by G & J Timing

· Wrapped granola bars and mini water bottles at the finish line for food and beverage

· Finisher's swag table where people can pick up their finisher's shirt and kids medals.

· Overall and age group awards will be available for pickup at the Community Center throughout the week following the race. The results will be posted online and the winners will also be notified.

· All volunteers and race staff will maintain social distance and wear masks and gloves throughout the morning.

Virtual Option

· People can also run/walk 3.1 miles between July 18 - July 20 and then submit their finishing times via email to G & J Timing.

· Overall and age group awards will be available for pickup at the Community Center throughout the week following the race. The results will be posted online and the winners will also be notified.
