Event Description

Welcome to scenic, central Whidbey Island and The Inaugural ShamROCK RUN presented by Living Hope Foursquare Church (the green church).

With spring officially 2 days away, we roll out the green carpet and invite you to grab your gear and green garb for some post-Paddy’s Day play! Enter a special unit of the National Park Service established in 1978 with more than 17,500 acres to explore among 3 state, 4 county and 3 town parks. Amazing opportunities abound to hike, bike, boat, camp, kayak, picnic, fish, beach walk, bird watch, scuba dive, paraglide, ride a horse, fly a kite and RUN the ShamROCK 5K!

Start and finish at the Church at the western edge of Coupeville’s town limits. Head west and north on county roads to experience the rural character of the area. Witness the cultural landscape here in Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve as the expanse of green fields along the route transitions to the famous Penn Cove waterfront. Detour through Town Park and begin your running tour along Front Street through downtown Coupeville, founded in 1853, steeped in history and infused with a charm you can discover in its unique gift shops, boutiques, restaurants, inns, art galleries, antiques, museum and wharf. Just beyond Main Street, step back a century-and-a-half-plus as you pass by several mid-19th century homes built by sea captains, explorers and early settlers, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Views of Mount Baker and the North Cascades greet you along the north side of the waterfront. Near Captain Coupe Park, head south through quaint neighborhoods that combine Victorian architecture with newer construction. Turn west at an elevation that offers wonderful views back towards the town, waters of Saratoga Passage and mountains beyond Camano Island and the mainland. Head north through an area of government buildings identifying Coupeville as the administrative seat of Island County. Pass through the Peaceful Valley neighborhood offering spacious views of the town and water before heading south to the finish line.
